Dusk Sifting the dust through my fingers, it blew off to the east. And so I turned and headed west - what they expected least. The thoughts linger on failed trust, as shadows stretch behind A man once blessed, but now twice burned, in every way inclined... ...To somehow find what treasures lie beneath the sunlit sky - This unknown path I now embark upon before I die. ...To justify what I, in kind, by scalding eyes of hate, Lost in her dark and muddled wrath, could not exonerate. Emptied of gothic principle, once mistook for compunction, As thought blasphemes all heaven graced, in channels of dysfunction; I overrule the man of cloth, lost to this heart-shaped void, And lay to waste those dying dreams, which I, alone, destroyed. Where, settled in the fallout of a routine afterthought, It's seldom I can acknowledge that something I forgot... This thing called love that burns like sin, harvesting the pretext - That dying pledge I can't unpen, to stand forever vexed. And, by love, who would stand today to face this desert ghost? 'Drink to a hope lost with the wind, and share my maddened boast? 'In staunch decay, regale all true, let go such tactile trait; And walk unhindered, down this slope, with me to condemned fate? The echoes resound off nothing, as I watch the sun fade, And darkness carries me promise of memory unmade. Her whispers sing infinately of life, cast as a stone - One last, soft kiss for me to bear unto damnation's throne. Michael Anderson 1/30/2012 I strike! It quivers in that heart Which drives me to this end; I draw and kiss the bloody dart, My last-my only friend! ~Abraham Lincoln [This message has been edited by Michael (01-31-2012 03:03 PM).] |

Michael and your odes to tragic love is a wonder each time I cast my eyes upon one of your posts. No one can tell of loves deceit and hatefulness better than you, your rhyming is always perfect and the cast of words are true wonderment. ~*~ Yes, size matters, but sighs matters more ~*~ |

I have seen pictures that haunt... but no painting or photograph can depict desolation more vividly than your poetry does. You touch so deeply with your words that I don't just see one set of footprints across the sand... I feel as if I made them. *S* Fantastic write... and I definitely like this title. *S* |

Ruth, that's quite a compliment... my sincerest thanks for that. Yeah, I wanted to call this "Twilight"... that last point of any light at all fading in the wake of an all engulfing blackness, but the image of squishy love-sick bleeding-heart vampires kept popping in my head. I think we have witnessed the death of a perfectly good word here.... Bah! ![]() Michael |

I agree with suthern, I could almost read your fingerprints all over this portrait you have displayed so well. JL, lol, well I've never been the conventional sort... My feet have gone nearly everywhere in this world, except maybe where they were intended to. ![]() Michael |

Michael, Ruth used the word 'desolation', I believe, in her response. That's how I feel - desolate. It worms its way through me. I love how you use words to convey such a feeling in me. I read this aloud twice and was captivated by your skill - even as I felt this sadness well inside me. Well done - so well done. Alison |
