Letting Go I can’t exactly remember when it was I let you go. I never realized that the last time really was the last time. You told me that you loved me what capacity, you did not know. It consumes me still controls my everyday. We became the photographs of withered lovers the eyes that grew more vacant as you gave to me winter when I only wanted shade. I am elemental in the silence I become it, I nourish it – the finality, the what if, the almost of. I am weaker in the want as I try to overcome the traces that dwell between the first and last drop of rain, empty in its own darkness. I thought of you again today how you asked me once to love you and for a beautiful brief I held you with arms that found no end. There was a time when my strength was your equator when I was molded beneath your hands. There was a time when your lips created volcanoes of lava through stirred skin as your drank my feminine through the cracks. But you realized that I wasn’t your happiness. I tell myself to forgive you I force my heart to forget you. Some people think that it’s holding on that makes you stronger. Sometimes it’s letting go. By Melissa Long-Monette |
