It was a quiet, late afternoon. I was alone in the art lab, A schoolboy not long off the farm, A thousand miles from home. I relive the moment with such clarity Of sweet remembrance. Janáček was playing on the stereo. A mournful violin haunted the stillness, When suddenly Sarah walked in, Gliding across, as if her feet barely Touched the floor! She took up a place behind me as I anxiously Dabbed my brush upon the palette. Oh! she exclaimed, you have made me So beautiful! I turned and met her astonishing, Blue eyes, and smiled, as she placed a hand On each of my shoulders—my heart leapt! That singular, breathless moment, Was as close as our hearts would ever meet . . . |
