There was poetry there
constantly written on the ground around you:
woven into the grass between your toes,
the sand that was allowed to absorb your sweat.

The snow melted by the heat in your breath
the air that was once inside your lungs.
The bits of your hair that fell to the earth
when you shook it loose.

There was poetry there
every time you laughed or smiled
or walked in a straight line
there was poetry there

and I could see it.
