Dear Soldier Dear soldier, you have traveled far From where you came to where you are And now you’re in an unknown place Where you and God come face to face You left the peace of your sweet land And quickly turned from boy to man With every footstep, every breath You face the truth of life and death Dear soldier, I don’t know your name Or the little town from which you came But this I know, you are my light You are my beacon in the night Beneath the stars in shadows deep There is a vigilance you keep You’re watching over all the good That rendered peace and brotherhood Dear soldier, you protect the free The spirit of integrity And from your cold and distant place You shine a pride across my face Dear soldier, I don’t know your name Your deeds will never bring you fame But this I know, my heart you’ve won You are my brother and my son You hold the torch that lights the world You are the flag, aloft, unfurled You are the flickering flame of youth That lights the darkest shades of truth In God’s great goodness place your trust Until He brings you home to us I love you, soldier, you’re my light A candle glowing in my night Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (02-23-2010 10:07 AM).] |

Every woman who has a name brings to light this very flame. Those whose sons never were bear that daughters of sons who sure are to bear the brunt of timeless times and listen to poets who give rhyme to such a beautiful bough of love.... and give gift in seamless glove. ~*~ You always inspire, dear poet. I hope you don't mind your own inspiration. ![]() |

That shines on our children both day and night. So that one day these children will be Parents of children in the land of the free. Thank you for sacrifices that you make To safeguard the people's freedom at stake. Yes dear soldier, you're a welcome light, Prayers are being said for you on this night. Liz - you have to read that one at the park for your town this year. ![]() |

Yo dear Elizabeth, This is very heartfelt. Try and remember that many of us troopers, young and old, came out of big cities. Love Bobby |
