Victims of Cooling

Last night winter's tongue licked
  vulnerable limbs, and snow stuck like epoxy.
So perfect in its naturality -
  a picture within scenic picture.
A long dashed impossibly staight
  track split the pristine softness:
ice falling from a telephone dropwire.
A persistent nudge thud came from
  one side of the house:
  snow, avalanching in sheaths
  exploding beneath the window.
The surreal artic howl of deep
  winter winds, begged to be let in.
A squirrel walked upon water.
White cascaded in endless dives
turning the earthen ashtray
upside down
until the buried
scurried out,
popping their heads up
like prairie dogs
at twilight

Yo Jeff,

This has a good thought.

Here in snowy Philly we're victims of a warmer than normal Pacific Ocean.  You know how water works, the heat stays on the top.

This causes a serious El Nino effect for the Northeast, and loads of snow.

climate...changes.
It is neither cold nor warm continually.

Hi Jeff, good to read you. We have been snowed under with over 30 inches and just before that about 7. They are expecting another 10 inches tomorrow night thru Wednesday. I sure picked a good year to buy a
snow thrower. Now if only the state would stop throwing it further onto the walk that I have cleared 3 times. This morning I decided to clear the area next to the sidewalk in the flower gardens. That way there will at least be a walkway if anyone needs to come out.
I'd take a picture but all you would see is walls of white.

I hear ya loud and proud on the snowfall amounts.  New cold front coming in behind it tonight for us.  We have 27 inches so far in Indy.  Family doing fine here.
When I heard about the Penn. snow-age, i was worried about you.

Hey Jeff, they just changed it to between 18-20 more inches starting this afternoon.

I went to the store early today when there were no crowds just so I could get anything needed in case we are stuck again for a few days. Mostly comfort foods. As long as we don't lose electricity I am fine.
(So much for global warming)

Lovely images in this well penned poem, Jeff. I live in snow country so they really ring a bell with me, except we don’t have prairie dogs. But we do have deer. Watching them dance across snow covered fields really takes your breath away. So beautiful!

Hey, Maureen:  better buckle up for safety out there!  We have a beaut of a sleet and snow storm here.  That's why I am online: taking the day off.   I'll let the polar bears dominate my street this week!
