You never see it coming-

The night might be warm taffy,
as sweet, as malleable, but
it`s on the edges, patient

as a ploughhorse, waiting
calm outside the line
of vision, where only in peripheral
you perceive.

Like the shell-shocked driver
behind the twisted wheel, pale
and bleeding, heart as faint and rapid
as an oriole...

who never
saw what happened,
or what hit them,

you tremble in the
grip of fate`s caprice.

ps:  This is in thoughts of my sister, (not myself) , who is waiting for the news...thank you~  A

Thank you, Latearrival...I neglected to mention it is my sister, not myself,  who`s waiting on tenterhooks...yet yes! We still hope for the best news. Thanks for your comment.

May you and yours read the words you seek... "negative." My best wishes to all in the new year. Peace.

I hope your sister gets good news, Amarylis.
I know how nerve-wracking wating can be.

Hoping she gets a clean bill of health, Amaryllis, You put the "waiting" confusion and despair so well in this poem.

To mimic is a form of praise unless
you have no thoughts of your own

Yes, the anticipation of news can be extremely hard. Nothing is scarier than the unknown.

May the results be good and you and your sister embrace a wonderful new year to come, along with many to follow. My prayers are with her....

May Fate choose, capriciously or otherwise, to bring smiles of relief to your sister's heart in the form of the best possible news.

Very impressively rendered anxiety, dear Amaryllis.

The best one can do I feel is to use the time to fight the negative thoughts, which of course is not easy.

Love and may the results bring peace of mind.

I do hope that her news was good.  Waiting is hell - you expressed this well in your poem.

Please let us know how your sister is.

Much thanks to everyone...we just heard today...BENiGN!  Oh halleluia ! (sp haha)  SUCH relief. She feels she has a new lease on life!     Thankful for the times that things go `right`, in life...and for everyone`s care & concern.     This was made even harder initially because she lives so many miles away & I couldn`t be with her to support. But so thankful for  a good-news turnout! Wow.

All my best to everyone~
Amaryllis (Sharon)
