I was sitting by the pool late nineteen sixties Crystal House Apartments not far from downtown L.A. headphones on, jamming listening to DOA by Bloodrock that night you made your presence known to me walked by gracefully, brown eyes so serious I was taken by your unpretentiousness in a place driven by cool you were simply Nanette from Long Island not far from Shea Stadium your simplicity touched me stood out among the freaks across the pool you sat observing the ongoing drama at Cecil's and Casey's Caligula-like party a garage band was playing live awful, hence the earphones and Bloodrock I watched you watching the craziness around us not judgmental, no but not joining in the insanity either a tentative Mona Lisa smile creased your mouth a private joke you made up as you watched the carryings-on of the pseudo hippies getting down I was, quite simply, beguiled you allowed a broad smile to manifest itself when my eyes met yours I went to you you looked away, but kept the smile sanity at a Mad Hatters Tea Party that then, was the beginning of Jerry and Nanette and laughter and tears, ah yes, that is for sure this is not about tears however these words are about love expectations making each other smile at nothing just because we were together this poem has no time for tears and sadness no, this poem is about . . . I'm sorry, but sadness does have a place at the table I cannot write about you and those days without sadness creeping in can't be done still, the sadness will never obliterate what we had for awhile it can never destroy our love together we were one I remember your smile http://swamprighter.wordpress.com/ [This message has been edited by JerryPat (12-20-2010 10:13 PM).] |

Ok, Jerry. Now, you need to know, my friend, when you write poems like this... you are supposed to give a hanky alert, m'friend...and this is more than suitable at this time.... So next time you write about your life and it includes moments like this? PLEASE...warn us.... and hanky alerts? They are a good thing...just like you knew. |

Aw, Sunshine, I should have, I agree. I guess so much of my past has been relived over the years that I've managed to subdue my tears to a tight squeeze of the eyes and a shake of the head. Hanky alert forthcoming in the future. Thank you for being here. http://swamprighter.wordpress.com/ |

This poem is so vivid and natural, this is a real enjoyment, to discover the authenticity of feelings, described with talent and sobriety...Thanks for the excellent poem. yann |

Spiros, many thanks for your kind words about the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. <><><><> If my words, Lori, can raise a sense of awareness and ultimately what was done was a dark chapter in my life, then I am honored. |

You're so right, can't extract the sadness out of the memory but you can let the happiness overwhelm it. Wouldn't be any sadness if there hadn't been love that's just the way some things in life go. If you had stayed together there still would have been some sadness, it's a learning curve for everybody. It can build character and strength if you view it the right way. However, I don't really have to tell you that. You were a hansome young devil at the time....C'mon now, tell the truth you swept her didn't you!?! In the words of Kim Simmonds from Savoy Brown song "You can't get a sneak preview over what you're gonna go through So you have to rely on your body and mind to see the light from shade!" Have a prosperous year writing 2011 Jerry You've been a delightful addition to the ranks of the amateur poets here at Passions. Take care Eric ain't doin nothin at all just answerin the call |

Good Christmas Morning to you Eric. Yes, sadness would have reared it ugly head even if we had stayed together. It would have been different though, we would have been together. Thank you for reading and commenting on my efforts. . . . and the raven said, )!(%!~@~#&$ . . . |
