to the coming Christmas season
I’d like to dedicate this poem to . . .

people who’ve made me cry
because they made me so happy
and to the ones who’ve made me laugh
to keep from crying

I wish glad tidings upon . . .

those who cannot use their eyes to see
but can “see” so much more than
most of us can in their dark

special feelings for . . .

the young men
the virile young men
and women
who come home from the war
minus legs
arms
no recognizable face
but will not give up

there should be a special thanks to . . .

those who hear voices that we cannot
others who live by their quiet faith

last, but for sure not least . . .

let us not forget the one who
stares back at us in the mirror
