mammoth cypress tree branches burdened with hoary Spanish moss placid, summer day the cypress throws black shadows on the green, scum-coated bayou below I'm up here high among its branches watching tiny flying things highlighted in old sol's rays the swamp beneath me, a kaleidoscope of brilliant sunshine and dark dense eclipses where the forest closes in shunting light as would a conductor to an electrical spark it is in those dark places I hear things chirping, grunting, things moving around scary place, oy but it is my quiet spot I come here to find . . . what I need to find to not be seen no words to speak I only hear never to be heard time passes I readjust myself on the cypress limb smelling the rankness of the moss sans sunlight and wait for my friend I know my friend will come my friend has never failed me I meditate as I wait allowing the congestion of my thoughts to be replaced with calmness don’t know how long I’ve waited among the varmints and ghosts of evil sitting high above the pirogue I paddled to get to my refuge it is here I shall come to grips with myself and my friend He has arrived He is here the circle, once more, can be fused together with special emotion He is here now my friend sits next to me I move some making room for Him |

Jerry: age old battle between forces of good vs evil..but when you can find a resting place on the outside, it will make the inside more serene..and if you are "up there..high among its branches" you can see with the 3rd eye and hear with the 3rd ear-and the Maker of all just might pay you a visit! Nice meditative poem! Al |

I appreciate your nice comments, flash. There are times when just being alone and meditating helps things. Being up a tree might be carrying it a bit far, still . . . |

I enjoyed this, Jerry. Your quiet place sounds delightful even if not literally high up in a tree but I guess anywhere near a tree aids receptivity. Helen |

Thanks Helen, my tree is of my own making, and it seems to work for me. |

Jerry...I think I will make a tree too. I loved this look from inside of yours. |

Very insightful and beautifully expressed. Through meditation we really reach quietude and we become more receptive to All there is. Love, Margherita ![]() |

I thank you for your comments, Lori, we all need some "down time" in our daily lives. |
