The sheer enormity of the universe, Its immeasurable size, so stupendous That size loses its meaning! God must be sad when we can be awed By this creation with all of its far-flung light, And choose to say it made itself! Never mind the need to explain the origin Of gravity* and pre-existent non-space! But you ask, who can explain the origin of God? Good question, but it’s better to contemplate God, Than to declare him nonexistent without proof! * So far, gravity has refused to join the family of electromagnetic forces as incorporated into the Standard Model. Gravity has no known mass, no charge, no anything but a ubiquitous force that defies comprehension! Theoretical physicists are so intrigued that they say when gravity is finally brought into a completed Grand Unified ‘Field’ Theory (GUTs), we will have discovered the mind of God! Meanwhile, I pat my telescope gently on the tube and say, good job, you bring me light! ---I eat light; I drink light; I am made in the image of light! |

I did not write this to make an argument for religious belief, it is just my utter fascination with the sheer existential fact of my “place’ in an inexplicable universe. |

Still, you made a good point about the existence of God. I have been searching for that existence. I haven't found it yet. It is up to me to prove or disprove for my own peace before I leave this earth, so I plan to write a novel whose character will travel down the discovery road. Enjoyed your posting, as do I most of your writing. |

Good luck with the novel, my friend. I have always kept in mind the admonition of Alexander Pope---"Study thyself, presume not God to scan, the proper study of mankind is man." Perhaps we mortals have limitations we don't want to admit to, and I think that is what drives us to doggedly smash against the walls of undiscovered frontiers. I am an adventurer, and I will launch out into the deep, again and again. Perhaps instead of finding, I will be found! Paul of Tarsus wrote that now we see through a looking glass darkly, but we will see face to face, and that we will come to know as we are already known. Interesting idea. Thanks, Art |
