Only a slip of pulp and adhesive,
color and gloss gleam on the face-
turned over, it`s gone;  just white, white, white.

This is when one-hour was quick,
long before digital magic,
maybe disposable point-and-shoot
because the young lovers
were penniless;
no mobile phoning
to hurry, or distract-
the infamous web
still just a dream
in middle-class America.

See how they cling-
they are honeymooners
or vacationing lovers,
all the same...
here he struts,
gold muscles in the sunlight,
hamming for the camera-
there, she`s caught
in a graceful half-turn,
dancing away
from the viewfinder-
longing to be caught
by those same hands.

Smiles, white
by the foaming waves,
impossible joy
in the August sun.
Here, closer in
the sand, the blonde shine,
the yearning reflected
in his blue gaze
returned by hers alone.
Heat, on the skin-
pinked by the day,
glimpse of green gingham
daisy-trimmed
bikini top;
how he bites
his bottom lip
forever-

and the diamond`s wink,
new on her hand.

Nice photo, nice looking couple, they seem very happy. My wife and I often laugh at the times when we had to scrape change together to get 25 cent chili-dogs from Der Wienershnitzel. $2.16 and we had eight dogs to go... dinner and leftovers. Didn't have a television, computer, or cell phones. How much easier it seemed to just live. Your poem was a joy to read. Thanks for sharing. Have fun with the pictures.

Thanks, Andrew Scott.. yeah, I`m never sure if it really was a simpler, `better` time, or if it`s simply glazed by nostalgia~!

Hi, A,
and perhaps there was a time, in the late 40's and 50's, that people simply
had
TIME

and what a gift that would be today.
Seems like we lost that concept of just
taking: 'time.'

extraordinary writing,
Jeff

Love the concept if relating a view of old photographs. I quite enjoyed it.

Your words paint the picture, Amaryllis, and very well indeed.  Although we're inclined to only remember the good times I have no doubt that it was a better time.

You captured a great moment here, so hearwarming and such an endearing poem, A~
Those were the days when we had our whole life in front of us and the sky was the limit.  Made me smile at the memory.

Hugs, you~

Amaryllis...Such a lovely emotive quality to this, touched with the patina of time.  Wonderful writing.
