Dear You Bee. Oh what a gentle fantasy! The only things clothes are good for is to keep us warm and trying to impress other people by how “important” we think we are. Why are girls taught to wear makeup? Back in kiddy school I was in a kiddy play and the makeup person smeared goopy sticky stuff that burned at my skin and hair just to make it look the right color and later I had a bit of time scrubbing that burning, itching stuff off me. Another time they had to paint my face the right color for television when I was little. Later I was told that I should wear glasses because they looked better. In “manners” class they taught us all about cigarette lighting, door opening, chair pulling and table picking and that all these things were needed if you wanted a girlfriend. They would send me to the soopermarket to get pair after pair of glasses. I was made to feel if I wanted dates, then I had to wear glasses and “dress up.” It didn’t work. I was miserable. Now days I don’t really care what I look like unless I’m going to a funeral and want to impress dead people by how “cool” and “smart” I am. I’ve since concluded why bother and just look like ourselves and who cares what everybody thinks. How sweet that someone else may agree. Hu:----gs) Jaime |
