A rewrite of an oldie from my '99 archives.

His crystal blue smile
Peeking thru wrinkles of tan
Faraway gaze
Ageless story of man

Lifetimes of choking trail dust
Many meetings with defiant mustangs
Has left his body bent and twisted like a sea pine

Leathery hands have tamed the fiercest broncs
Now gently cradle a newborn foal

Fingers like claws
Touch like velvet

Gentle caresses on a downy nose
Belie the strength
in those hands of iron

Tender mercy
Angel smile
The old cowboy
Has traveled many a mile
