City of sun, city in crab’s pincers
Which seize the whims of the ocean,
You says to us that we walked here
In other lives, other youths.

People whom nothing seems to frighten
Walking in your streets, the penetrating glances
As balsamic rocks, the wrinkled hands
By the languishing angers of Tropics.

We roam on the pavements of the world,
On the new flavorsof the crystal clear laughter
Until to come down in the élévador Lacerda
Up to the low city, the sea is blue.

In the heart of the market, the celestial assemblage
Dancers of capoeira multiply movements
And knocks, the moon and the sun are in confrontation on the sand,
Happy, the violent sea takes revenge for the city.

The slaves fight and their feet
Draw arabesques contained in the summer air
bewitched and masterful drunkenness
As the fear which their rites chase away.

much grand imagery here ...

I am especially fond of:

"...flavors of ... crystal clear laughter"

v. well 'penned' !

Fine writing Yann, few lines remind me of the affects of tsunami throughout the tropics.

Nice work in describing a city and its people and the ebb and flow of their hearts and frivolity. Yes.

Thanks Prasad, yes it can suggest some drama even if it was not the purpose, some verses have ambiguity, enjoyed your comment;
