Move On Down I'm an ol blues singer, tryin my best to express What's in my heart on frets with scars hopin I guess the rest Did me some time in the big house, caught in a stranger's nest wasn't raised to be no coward but sorry none the less Left my country home long ago now I'm facin middle age Ain't pretendin to be bullet proof or superhero brave But I got issues with the actors on the worldwide stage They never hear my little voice but I always hear their rage (Chorus) Don't wanna be no role model No minister nor Priest Don't wanna preach no drivel Misleadin young or weak But I know they'd help the poor By sharin hordes of wealth Then move'em down to the part of town Where heaven turns to hell. I ain't lookin for sympathy, or a hero's place in stone An I can't forsake the notion every man should pull his own Sometimes I drink and try to think about some place unknown Where preacher guys and senate lies don't rule on lofty thrones Don't claim to be no genius or sacrificial lamb Been in the wrong too many times an crawled back out again But I never lost the reason to help my fellow man After the resentment I still do the best I can (Bridge) I've never levied taxes Got no mansion on a hill But I get satisfaction Without financial thrills No scams for unsuspecting No lies for those who pray I'm livin with connections To the truth no one can change (Chorus) Don't wanna be no role model No minister nor Priest Don't wanna preach no drivel Misleadin young or weak But I know they'd help the poor By sharin hordes of wealth Then move'em down to the part of town Where heaven turns to hell. If I can't hear you pickin' and singin' this, I'd opt out for Stevie Ray Vaughn in a pinch. You make this songwriting seem so easy, but it isn't, at least not for me. I've tried, although I must confess I haven't put my whole heart into it, because I think inside I always knew it wasn't for me. This song gets me because of the honesty of it, and blues ain't nuttin' if it ain't honest, but you know that. The first two stanza's of the poem really get me. They set up the rest of the song and I hear you talking. . . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(!$! |

Worked in public radio for 15 years and used to help out on the Friday night blues show. I'd never turn down the opportunity to play a smokin' tune... this one would have hit the table more than a time or two. Like Jerry, I could never write 'em, but I sure did love to spin 'em. This one makes me miss those days. I bow to you and yours ![]() "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |

Thank you Trina That's typically the blues, in your face and right out of the elements of the earth itself. I appreciate the comment and the quote. Eric |
