embryonic hopes dwelled within my heart
obscured by false idols and drugs
swelled with angst until acid came along
filled my dreams with top-notch dope
not to mention sour mash and Bocephus
on the corner of main street and dive
telling myself ain't this grand
listening to the culture of skid row
did my bit for the armed forces, yep
Air Force couldn't adapt to me
tried Jesus on for size, but that was before
Iron Butterfly and the pusher man
drowning my id in the static of long-playing albums
marketing myself with bravado on the strip
second-rate gigolo making the rounds
fraudulent smiles and tough it out desire
watching Vietnam, first war to play on TV
through a haze of intellectual futility and fear
headline blurry KENNEDY SHOT
Camelot gone, gone, gone, if it was ever really there
theoretical squares and angles of gangsters and idea pimps
highways, overpasses, nooks and crannies
teenage years gone, forgot what I was rebelling about
fond love, didn't recognize it, thought it was prison
life lived on reckless high on roller-coaster of DRUGS
paying those poetical dues don't you know
another blurry headline KENNEDY SHOT
déjà vu all over again
(thanks yogi)

Yes, DS, MM did that. I still have my doubts about her strange death, and the stranger things which went on prior to, and immediately after her demise. Never made it to a Butterfly concert, caught Janis in a cow pasture somewhere south of S.F., a few others that were blurry then and impossible to recall now, but CCR and Ten Years After stick in my mind. Thanks for stopping by and helping me dreg up some more memories.

Been down the same roads. Seems like forever ago now.
God it costs a lot for a haircut these days!
Still absolutely love Alvin Lee and Ten Years After.......I can still see that red Gibson es 335 blazing at Woodstock....Goin Home....Wonder if we ever really get all the way home?
I had an SG, also red, at the time. Sold it for a song, no pun intended.
Tomothy Leary where are you now in your old verisimilitude.....Can't imagine?

Great ramble Jerry....I enjoyed the read.

I'll play one in your name tonight.

Eric

Hah! Thanks for playing one for me tonight, ethome. Didn’t make it to Woodstock, I was on the other side of the continent. Appreciate the thoughts and memories in your comments, man.

Why thank you, latearrival, I appreciate that you would take the time to check me out. Stories? Yes, I have more stories than I have years I'm afraid. Thanks again.
