                           Now Soon Comes Death

Now soon comes death, as I near my last breath, and my heart thumps it's very last beat,
With darkness inviting, I give up on fighting for life, and so welcome defeat.
A silence remains, as blood stills in my veins, and my skin moves from pallor to grey,
Friends sob and kiss me, how much they will miss me, while others still pointlessly pray.

They finally go, with the lights dimmed to low, after hiding my face with a sheet,
Soon in mortician's make up, no more shall I wake up to friends that I'd rather not meet.
The sum of my years, met with rivers of tears by the ones who continue to cry,
Poor loved ones in grieving, through prayer still believing in hope, as they bid me goodbye.

They slowly adjourn me, to soon after burn me, this box now becoming my shell,
A dressed corpse inside, taken in for the ride with a ticket to heaven or hell.
Stagnant I lay,  as close friends do betray me, whilst others try digging gold,
To the day I'm forgotten, and flowers long rotten, my life just a story once told ,

For now here I wait, to endeavour my fate, in a place where no time does exist,
Forever is none, and though life carries on, it is one most regrettably missed.
In such life I bring pleasure, so countless in measure, yet for others still obviously don't
From those burdens I free you, hope one day to see you, but then again maybe I won't...

I love this line. This piece is sad, but absolutely riveting. Enjoyed.

A powerful piece... I can feel the contempt for the process. Funerals are for the living... but I'm sure the there are times when the dead would like to just sit up and say, "Get a life!" Now wouldn't that be a trick and a treat.
