How does one measure beauty?
Is it the sparkle in the eyes
the breath-taking curves
or the little smirk when they're right
what ruler would you use?
would it be enough?
to measure a remarkable masterpiece
which emulates perfection-
equal to that of Aphrodite
or perhaps its found in ones knowledge
beauty of the brain?
the capacities for abstract thought
and the faculty of reason
Is it the elegance one protrudes?
sophistication at its best
beauty redefined
without any arrogance
How does one measure beauty?
the answers are fairly simple
if the truth were to be told
true beauty is really found
in the ugliness of the soul.

OK~ I admit to having read this several times and being a bit slow on the uptake...
your ending kept throwing me as I would immediately want to say no... it is the beauty of the soul that is true measure, not the ugliness....
THEN..I had that moment of clarity and thought about perfection...and if all things were perfect, then all things would be the same.... so it is the imperfections in each of us, the individual that makes beauty when mixed with the same in another...
Like puzzle pieces... some edges fit together and some do not, and perhaps we measure beauty by how well our edges fit with those around us...

sorry... long winded.... but your writing caused me to pause and think, which is a good thing and I wanted to share that, whether or not, what I took away was the intent when you wrote...

a very nice piece ma'am... I enjoyed

Lol: Dark`s reply~!
This is fascinating... thankfully, beauty is one of those things that can`t truly be measured, it is so subjective, and ever-changing, even within one`s own sensibilities.  Fine write!
Best~

If, as they say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"  to measure beauty would be almost imposible. Like your work.latearrival

Beauty.... what a question!  I guess it's all what your hope rest on, where life's vibrations are at a higher level, and where it doesn't matter if someone teaches you that 2 + 2 is five, because you already know what it takes to be one!     Loved the direction in this poem.  ~K

Loved the poem, except the last two lines have me confused. Then again, I stay confused much of the time.

Jerry - Thanx. I truly believe that it is the imperfections that makes one beautiful. the "ugliness of the soul"
