Me And Dog It didn't bother me at first... this sleeping alone at night, this cooking-for-one (and dog) this waking alone to early light. But as it gets later and later, I sit by a desk lamp dim, watching the midnight oil burn, and thoughts turn to him. There's an 18-wheeler I hear pass by at 2:30 in the morning, and the loneliness I should be glad for takes me down without a warning. Every night, it gets later and later. Maybe soon I won't sleep at all. Maybe I'll cover the house with words... "I love you" written on every wall. I tell dog daddy will be home soon but 'soon' is not a word either of us know- with every 18-wheeler heard... we've got too many nights to go. |

Well spoken. It's good to have a dog. "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |
