she said it was insomnia and she had a dollar
in her pocket, so she would buy a donut
and take those legs of hers out walking
to see if their lovely would rub off on dawn
like that glisten lipstick does on glass

and she did that thing with her hair too
taking it down and then putting it back up
filling in the answer to my questions
about the mona lisa and how she would look
with her hair pulled back and a real smile on

we scattered small talk on the table by the door
and I imagined it fell through the slats after
just a nothing special residue on grey concrete
but I did look around for the sounds of her voice
that she left behind as an occasional reminder

that angels always do favors for their children

I admire how you can build so much character in short evrse..and add the insights others often miss..
your ending line made me think of an angel
and not an angle...
truly enjoyed sir and as always am  impressed

I really like the image your words paint.

You are so beautifully inspired, this is exquisite in its wholeness.

I do always count on the favors of angels ... to face all of life's challenges.

Wonderful write.

Margherita

The first stanza took me back four decades
[gads I'm getting old...]
to a bare-legged naive'
who stood alone in the cold
warming only to the pink of the
Dunkin' Donut sign.

I'm back...

and I'm reading.

You have some vivid images in this poem.  I could picture myself actually being there.

I love this poem but don't know quite what I can add to all the previous comments. The metaphors are brilliantly original. I could compare the whole poem to an Edward Hopper tableau.
