I sold my soul to a sidewalk hobo
Who led me down the path of salvation.
The enlightened one, as he was known,
Showed me the world’s hidden faces:

One of darkness, burdened by hate,
Another of sadness, varnished in gold.
The face of happiness, hidden in shame,
Behind the smirking ignorance of old.

Each façade took root inside his heart,
Fighting for positions of power and control.
Creating an image from the varying parts,
The hobo revealed humanity as a whole:

Burdened with wars of sedition and strife,
Marching in ranks of different colored skin.
Having lost touch with the beauty in life,
Enslaved by machinery, man’s modern sin.

The current society must face disruption,
No longer being fueled by selfish desires.
And in order to rid the world of corruption,
the enlightened one said with great ire:

“Work together now, or eventually die out”
From his lonely sidewalk he observed,
That the entirety of life on earth must shout
For change, or forever remain unheard.
