The blue ridge hugged the ragged edges
and the music of water flowed with a wondrous rhythm.
The morning sun didn't rise in the sky
so much as it was tucked in niches
hidden in the soil
peeking from cliffs
while scampering at my feet.

To be one with nature awakening
speaking in hushed overtones
was stirring and so far beyond.
As the cool moist air spun golden threads
highlighting the red sky
a heron bathed in the river currents
dotted with lilies in delicate shades
the moss grew like a velvet robe
clinging to the wake
where a frog made it's home
and deer waded without batting a lash.

The steep rocky cliffs in all their majesty
shown so bright in the copper plume of daylight.
The heat rose and retreated between crevices
casting burnt orange shadows
as a backdrop against the rugged mountains.
Towering in their might and sturdy appeal
the diversity so pure and God given
we were meant to catch our breath
and breathe in whispers.

Reaching the plateau
rocky formations hung like a canopy
misting rain weeped and fell silent
painting the canyon in water colors.
As the sun set deep in the heart
of a cherished time
that would forever change me
overcome by the sense of renewal
and the view
through the veil of rain.

oh my, you have surely painted the spiritual feeling one experiences, with nature, melding into it, feeling a part of it...and knowing your home....

How I do understand that you did not want to leave this scenery! I will read this more than once, because it gives me a feeling of home ... of oneness, of immeasurable beauty.

Dear Lori, you have written an outstanding poem, which will linger within me through the emotions it stirred.

Love,
Margherita

It may not be the same patch of grass, or even the same continent, but ...

I have been here.  Thank you, for taking me back.

Thanks a bunch, it means a lot to me that you all stopped by.

I admit I love getting some feedback and knowing others read my work, I guess that's why I post in a public forum instead of a journal.  It is give and take, and taking the time to make time to be a part of PIP, and I feel blessed to be sharing these blue pages with so many great poets.  I've always felt there is something nice to say about everyone's work.  But the truth is, I wrote this for myself being that it was such a meaningful time in my life.  So you see,  your replies are truly an added bonus and just make me as happy as can be.

Thanks so much to each one of you~~

Very nice description of a lifting of the veil, of how it is meant to and will be.

Your words here help in understanding why some fall so in love with mountain and valley country. Such scenes often have a transcendant grandeur that doesn't grow old.

I just got round to this...late as usual & bringing up the rear guard.lol. Does such a place exist in reality? It's almost like reading of the beauty of Shangri-La in Lost Horizon. Much admiration for this poem.

The wordplay of this particular poem is just exquisite. To old sol tucking upward in inches to a heron getting a bath in freshwater and seeing it all through the film of rain, you had me there. I'm still there. Good.

Good stuff here, gal...and it is so good
