This time of year her eyes show greyer And her dress a lace of orange and red shows enough of her limbs To entice a marvel of the way humorous supports the ulna Or how the elbow bends against limestone’s mottled rust Letting veins of her glisten in wet sheen of sun come late afternoon Early morning and her pupils dilate wide to let in what stars provide And I can look into the depths of her shadows to see how The mystery of seasons has left marks upon the old Sycamore She has watered for the century or so it has stood as silent guard To the pool where she pauses to rest Before spreading thin again along the slick shelf with a laugh Teasing from under stone the words left there long ago As round vowel seduction of dreams I’ve lain in her bed and let her cover me Feeling the smooth of her skin slide softly against mine Until lost in the breath of her I succumbed to faith and fell in love All the while knowing I could not hold her as my own Or stop the change of tide that pulled her with passing moon Some few hours of passing time and the colours of her iris Shift again to browner hues that hold warmth that few might know When the wind shifts and she covers her bare with the drift of cloud But at me she smiles sardonically For I have worn her naked on my thigh And known the pleasures of her caress just as I have seen her rage Being left too wise for illusions that sky brings With passing shade Soon the lace she wears will be changed for gown And with a placid shrug she will seek dreams among the drift of sleep But when she might rouse from slumber to take a lover to her breast I will see the flecks of slow green sparkle in her eyes And remember how it was When she was Warm |

It is ever so hard to pick out a favored line... and each is better than one's most favored foodstuff... bite after nibble after bite, I relished the taste of this upon my tongue. Even the soft sound of all of this tastes good. |
