VOICES The dead chatter from the grave, all the time, interrupting the silence of mind with the halitosis of their feverish whispers. They’re meant to be silent now, those voices that once praised, scolded or cajoled. In my youth I didn’t listen, falling in the my own crowd, a giggling brook of friendly thoughts of love and a future imagined. As time shrinks, those ghostly syllables rise like swirling fog over evening graves, having traveled incognito all these years, now closer, more intimate, questioning, somehow altering the path of a lifetime I thought to be my own. |

Yes, it can be a long way from the sparkling brook to the quiet graveyard just up the hill, when early lessons are recalled for silent questioning. This is a fascinating and somewhat haunting write, Bastet. |

It's nice to read you again, dear Bastet. An intriguing piece. They should rest in peace! I hope their voices ring elsewhere and that they are filled with joy ... no doubt we are induced to ponder when we visit a cemetery. Love, Margherita |

Bastet - Amazing it is that the more Time shrinks for each of us, the more those voices herald our mortality and say that one day our voice too will be added to theirs. Best we live full lives while we can still speak to the living. Sobering poetic piece indeed Bastet that'll make you think, if you haven't done so before. Nicely crafted. Namyh |

Bravo, Bastet... this is wonderful, you really have a gift. This is reminiscent of Billy Collins` `The Dead`... and full of introspection. Nicely done! . Best~ Amaryllis |
