One Leaf Serenade Each leaf whispers as it drifts to the ground Nestling into moss and dried grass for the winter Reminding me of the beauty it once held An overwhelming memory, not quite forgotten I wonder if it knows how special it was That one leaf that dangled gently in the breeze Golden bright in the autumn sunlight One piece of a splendorous chorus line How saccharine my thoughts are I can never capture the beauty of that one leaf That caught my eye as it drifted slowly Landing on a litter of those who feel earlier It deserves a serenade of eloquence - Alison [This message has been edited by Alison (09-16-2010 10:41 AM).] |

Isn't it funny how such a small thing can cause you to create such a beautiful poem. Fall always makes me think of how the trees looked in the fall in Oregon up around the Columbia River. Unforgettable. Ida |

I love it, Alison... so very pretty! . ps: in the 3rd line up from the bottom, did you mean to say `fell` instead of `feel` ?? Just wondering... sorry Poem is still so lovely! . Best~ Amaryllis |

ps: This poem reminds me of two things: One is a painting I once did, of one last red leaf upon a branch, lit by the sun... however, your words paint it much much better, . And this: . "And if I should live to be the last leaf upon the tree in the spring, let them smile, as I do now at the old forsaken bough where I cling" . From "The Last Leaf" by Oliver Wendell Holmes. (hope I`m not going to get in troubles by posting that??) |

... and you just captured it in memory and in its prestine form, unsoiled. And you just wrote its serenade I don't know what it is with Pip. It doesn't "remember" me automatically, even when I type my name and the pw it gave me. I keep trying. |

Alison...you gave it a song all it's own, but more you gave it appreciation. I love that! |

yes...autumn is like that for a woman's heart as it is caught upon the spindling colors, kaleidoscopic, left either to the breath or shaking or shaking of leaves and limb. Lovely, tremulous. ~Karen |

Alison, I know exactly what you mean, and like Amaryllis, I understand your bond with a single leaf so well (also wrote a poem about a leaf and Flicka and Daisy). Your poem is very beautiful. I know exactly what you mean, but still I disagree with the past tense (though it enhanced the poem) with regard to the leaf’s beauty and being special. I SAW it in your poem, and it was very beautiful and very special – but, yes, in a different way from when it was in its heyday! Owl |
