A peace of salvation

Even as a child
I built walls around me
Just high enough to see
what's on the other side

Past trolls and vagabonds
Who slept beneath the bridge

Far beyond the rainbows
Somewhere between right and wrong

I could see happiness
But I could only feel
the stones' condensation
drain the warmth from my hand

That deadened part of me
left paralyzed and numb
Only left enough strength
For me to pray and cry

An old, rusty sludge-hammer
Lies not far from my feet
And I can't even grasp
A peace of salvation

-Juju

(I intentionally spelled peace that way.)

What's so amazing about really deep thoughts " Silent all these Years, Tori Amos

Such walls are built from fear, and walls dripping captured humidity or fog bring back memories. Excellent read, thanks.

I love the title of the poem as well as the poem itself. A truly moving piece.

Ju girl, those of us who have a metaphoric poetic sense about us know that you spelled it that way intentionally and love it

I think I might be fading away behind my own walls but I will take a peace of you with me

Juju, it has been a long time since I have been here and a long time since I have read you and my oh my have you ever taken flight in your words.

Peace is spelled exactly as it should be in this piece.  This is filled with depth.  Walls, sometimes are necessary but every now and then it is good to let them down too.  Even if only for a little while.  It was a pleasure to read you again.
