I attempted to surrender my hope.
To allow it to decline at peace.
Along a patient, steep slope.
An anaesthetised release.

But it's eccentricity wouldn't quit.
I tried to reason, but believed i was fit.
Or close enough, to provide allure.
And that ego-trip, i indulged to endure.

Upon realizing my failure, I fade in and out.
Repititous dreams, ambling in doubt.
Fervent reminders of what she means to me.
Whilst discovering that we'll never be.

I don't love me,
I'm no liar.
So I understand . . .
Why you can't either.

tis true one must love themselves first to be able to love others. Ah, but rarely do we get it right on our first attempts.  You remind us well. good job. ebm

I agree with EBM. We must love ourselves first before we can love and be loved by others. Nicely done.
