If I raise my eyes to you Allah
And ask not for riches or for the spoils of war
But for the dew that settles some mornings upon jasmine
So that I might taste subtle fragrance and feel
A luxury of silk under tongue
Would I be heretic or of sin?

She moves my lord within the fabric of muscle
And sinks within marrow to anchor in me
The feeling of love
I did not understand before she came
Touched my hand
In a brazen move of stealth among the elders
Who would quickly condemn such a wanton act
As to let her eyes
Bold be pressed upon my heart
To disappear as if the sand upon Zephyr were scattered
Among two billion more
And I was to search
One past three to next and back again
This cycle of death to bring back upon a wheel
Another turn
Another speck to the dust we are

This land is rich Allah
You have touched the field and vine to grow
Blessed those who may with children of fine bone
And let sup at the well of your smile all
Who would thirst to follow you

I know I do not ascribe to all
And our conversations by needs must fall short of prayer
As you know those who pray with heads east
Their three devotions given with zeal
While my lips often twist cynically and the words
Fall with some short stutter to the ear
As you might lend them
Once
And once the while

Bless me then with time
If not the dew

And I will search for the morning when I might find

Her

And through her begin again
To believe

Cpat..I substituted the name Mr. Rogers since I have a different god than you..but enjoyed the poem.

Mr Rogers works fine for me, it just isn't as poetic sounding.....

How on earth did this only get one comment aside from your own? Let's raise it up again and see where it takes us...
