Saluting with misty eyes

"I'd love to dance with you, but my card is full"
I said to the young lady with the bright, starry eyes
As she asked me for but a moment of my time
"But, Sir, it is a long way from home you are
And the place is empty save for thee and me.
How is it that your dance card is full
With not a spot for such as me
A poor wandering soul trying but to make a dime?
Dance with me
We shall talk of things
The Night    The Weather   Our Lives
And spend a few moments losing the loneliness within ourselves"
I stood, smiling, and turned towards the door
"My card is filled by my love
With whom I dance in my mind"

This was inspired by a gentleman named Paul Wilson, who is a member of these Blue Pages in response to a request for inspiration.
I thank him all these years later.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, "WHAT A RIDE

well done..
there are a lot of memories for me in this place, and among the many fine poets I have been honored to know through out the years.
Some.... no longer around...

enjoyed the read... indeed I did.

A smile has been placed on my face. Now if only more men would follow by example. Thoughtful and elegant. Loved it.

Thank you all...
CPAT- you are always generous with the kind words.

Amy- *hugs* The woman that inspired it is truly one of a kind.

Crystal- You know I like your writing... You continue being the best poet you can be.
