They say that when we are dependent we are lesser, weak, and helpless. Now help me out here, that is the lesser of being, independent right? I mean who of us, would ever want to consider themselves humble, and vulnerable? Oh god certainly not me. I’ve always had the answers to, cough, everything I never needed. Independent, is good yes? Being on one’s own, separated, unaided and unallied. Funny how the Temperance Movement of, self restraint brought about the prohibition period when this country was actually born, from an addiction. An enslavement, if you will that almost died in the fight to break its own chains of bondage itself. We should all be so addicted again. We should all be, in dependence, of each other once more. All we ever wanted was to be able to be dependable to someone… right?? All we ever needed was someone as well that we could depend on from time to time to time… to time. True? We are one creation indivisable, altogether in this. This is, our village earth under one undivided sky, surrounded by, one big unbroken ocean. That is on loan to us from gods, and earth, and existence, and destiny. Our destiny, to have the intelligence, and the, dignity and respect, the gratitude and the compassion to be right, to do what’s right for our home and for our, great big… family. Can we all be dependable, once more? I don’t know… How much hope do you have in the pocket of your heart? I guess it all just depends. If we want to continue enjoying this beautiful earth or just be the dirt beneath that we are walking on today. If our life is worth dying for in the war of our daily frown of freedom and bliss then it too should be worth living for during the smile of peace, and the declaration of our own dependence. Our dependence to each other, and ourselves. May the winds always blow sweet and unfettered across the faces of free people, not just here but everywhere. As hearts together of reddened glare burst high in flight into the tears of heaven and arms, of night. [This message has been edited by Richy (07-02-2010 08:42 PM).] |

I'm thinking, my friend, that your questions back in and upon themselves. I would like to depend on my neighbor's eyes, that they might note something gone wrong in the neighborhood, and notify me if I can assist. I would like to be independent in choice on my neighbors, to the extent that I don't live in a war-torn area. I would like to be dependent upon my children to visit me when they wish, allowing them their own independence to do so. Vice versa. It's a good question, Richy...how to perceive independence, and depending on how it is interpreted, dependency. And I'm sure that in the mix, it will all depend on Depends....no matter which way you slice it. But right now, I'm thinking that our nation needs to be more dependent on the independent...the folk that strive to make this nation one as a nation, and allowing that we govern ourselves with civility, compassion, equality, and liberty...and requisite guidelines. It's only a test...and voila...citizenship is recognized. . http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis and I'm sure this poem might not have been written to generate such a response from me, but on this particular weekend, knowing my history as I do? I thank you...for your right in posting it...my privilege in reading it, my right to issue my response. |

I like to say that I am independent and smart enough to know when to be dependent. Well done Richy. |
