Was it in some tome, some dust-loved anthology from your violet youth, swollen with time and elegant ideas; was it then it hit you? Like a wash of citron incandescence, flowering fertile in your novice sense, vital as conception. Was it then you gathered to your core like a hungry singularity: the sparrows`s spin, the heather`s feathering- the moon like stone? How love and loss are only grand abstractions, how bone and sinew knit, how tongues can drum, blooming in the spirit, an algae on the water, not ugly, no- but permeating.. and you have since to be the same- was it then? . . . .PS: all.. I am sorry if I have been over-posting. I don`t mean to make others sick of me here on the boards. I will take some time off.. thanks everyone :) [This message has been edited by Amaryllis (06-07-2010 09:06 AM).] |

Very nice... not only for the skilled wording and theme of discovery (specifically of the joy of poetry, which should fare well with this crowd), but also for your valiant attempt to describe the actual awakening into rational, filtering consciousness of a new idea. That's a high bar, and I think you cleared it. If not, at least the citron scent will clear out something. The question: for me, hmmm, probably a mobile above the crib, one of my earliest accessible memories. Beauty and spatial relations, and once one learns to read and write with words the compositions flow from that earlier splendor, as much as is humanly possible. Had to slow down and read this poem over; it's a good read, thanks. |

My love for poetry, initially came when I first read a poem, almost as beautiful as this one. I think I just fell in love with it, all over again. Richard xx |

It was books in general that drew me in; but then when someone spoke alliteratively, and fluid sounds were flung from a tongue that wrapped its way delicious over and around vowels that voiced fluid silver... that was when it was...and it was a long, long time ago... |

Many thanks, everyone-! . I understand the poem seems sexually charged, but I meant for it to augment the miracle of poetry (for me).. not in a tawdry way (I hope..) . Thanks for `getting` it, and for reading! . Best to all~Amaryllis |

first, you aren't over posting, that used to be my job. Secondly, "sexual", naw, you should have seen all the stuff I had censored here many years ago. (If you want to see some look on the mature forum, "The pond that has no ripples"....that caused some ripples I'll tell ya. Thirdly, don't quit posting, just keep the words flowing, at least yours make sense and are well written, look close at my stuff. LOL |

Oh thank you, Toe! No, what I meant was I`ll wait a bit before putting up another poem.. I`ll still reply & comment, though.. can`t keep me away! (addicted much? haha) . Also, thanks for addressing my fear that the poem might be gauche.. I guess it`s all good, hey.. an no, I haven`t been over to the mature corner; haven`t even requested clearance.. guess I`m a prude but I enjoy `hinting` at things rather than blatancy~! haha . Feeling at home here on Open Poetry, still . Thanks again, piggie-inna-blanket! ~A |

Well, don't go to the mature site then cuz you'll be trying to remove my toerag like all the other ladies...LOL...(yassee? when you get old like me it's all talk and fantasy and dreaming). Like George Burns used to say when he was 98, "I'm as good in bed now as when I was 18, just goes to show ya how rotten I was in bed when I was 18."...LOL...you keep posting young lady, seems as though everyone enjoys your work. |

Lol, Toe.. if it`s been on thaaat long, don`t know if I`d wanna remove it-?! haha only teasin`.. Yes, it is true, the older we get the more stimulating the mind is! (I`d love to see an 18 yr. old try & get that one.) =P heh! My oldest is almost 13..(boy).. so I`ll be hitting that whole teenagers-in-the-house stage soon.. ohhh wish me luck! (don`t know what that had to do w this thread, but anyhow...) lol . See ya~ Amaryyyyyyyy |

Never stop posting... take it from someone who knows. Your work and insight is a joy to read, and would be a loss to all were it to stop. I bow to you and yours. Oh, and I have to admit... it was a broken heart when I was 19. I believe my first poem started with "Dead on arrival was my cause..." Thankfully we all move on. "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |

A beautifully balanced poem. I love "dust-loved anthology" and the phrase that starts "the sparrow's spin..." Someone who writes as well as you do cannot over-post. Your poems are a treat to read. |

a perfect poem! Much enjoyed and, no, don't think you are over-posting. I would love 3 a day from you, only because that is the limit. That's 21 per week! (that makes it sound less depressing) Post on!! |
