Always This My eyes watched old hands work the pancake batter thin to stream, not quite crepe, but in-between enough to bubble, brown and turn, watch the steam, remove the dream to plate. I made the syrup simple, sure to add butter to melt sugar brown into liquid pure, then added bits of pineapple plus creamy slices of banana thus a concoction worthy of memory. And it is always this, these very memories that kindly drift on back to me to bring your essence toward the near of elderberry, vanilla and beer. Eyes and hands now, of course are mine; the steam, the dream, the taste pure fine are yours in me in essence steeped… Dad, it is in your basis that I keep love’s depth so well. Always this always yours where hummingbirds fly and coffee brews are made by me but all for you. ~*~ © KRJ 2 June 2010 For RHR, 2 June 1923-2 Sept 1988 |

He must have been a lovely man to be portrayed in words, thus. |

Lindsay, you and your wife will always be welcome at my door. Just bring a song along, and I'll even drop cranberries into the mix! That, along with some sausage, bacon, eggs, and great hospitality! |

So beautiful, Sunshine.. a real feast for the senses. I especially liked how the image of his hands at culinary work brings him back to you.. I experience a similar sense when I bake bread.. seeing my hands dusted with flour against the counter brings back my mother.. I have her hands, and as I age I see her in my work. Thanks for the memory, and for this exquisite poem. Warmly~ Amaryllis |

You make me smile and think of hands that have reached out to me in love - making me smile as they guided me. I dunno if I am saying what I am feeling - it's hard to express. Love you, A |

Most excellent! This one speaks to me in a very personal way. One of my father's classic dishes is apple pancakes... again, not too thin as to make crepes, but not so thick as to be traditional pancakes. I've never taken the time to learn how to make these treats, but my eldest daughter did so just recently. And so it lives on. Thank you for sharing. "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |
