What has modern life given you, dead man? Years of making a living, hoping to one day live What gift have you gained from the comfort you've purchased? Muscles, you must "work out" lest they become too weak to carry your bones Sixteen ounce energy drinks and five hour shots The plasma of lethargic legions I cannot go on a restful, idle stroll without running into important people, doing important things gerundial Goliaths on the go But, these mighty ones cannot function on their own They lack the stamina that the labor of self reliance would require Energy must be provided for the ambitious sloths and hurried sluggards The living need blood but the blood of the living is not the same as the blood of the dead You need energy, don't you, dead man? To help you move about Oil is your life blood, isn't it, dead man? Today, I cannot consider the sea, without pondering the passage "it became as the blood of a dead man" dark thick sticky coagulated I look upon the Gulf Coast and see a scene from Patmos Live well, dead man *** |

I have always thought that taking oil from the ground is like taking the blood from Mother Earth and nothing good can come of it. Just war, earthquakes and oil spills and of course, the ever popular, greed. This is a great, thought provoking poem. Ida |
