Listening to every heart

You Think, You Thought

You think I can just unleash out loud all of my inner feelings
like I do when I sit down and put my paper under pen,
it irritates me that you aren’t right, you don’t know when
to stop asking me to explain, and I end up lost and reeling.

You think it’s easy for me to explain certain ways I suffer
when I desire ever so, a fine artist of words to be;
you have always thought that it’s so effortless for me
ah, from rejection slips my dreams are my only buffer.

You thought “She puts material out for her Forum friends,
and from me she hides her innermost, silent thoughts.”
Darling, I don’t think you can never, ever be taught
that posting on the Forum is only a means to an end.

You think I’m romantic, you don’t know the reality:
how love words get caught up too fast in my mind,
how my love for you makes me foolish, and blind,
how my throat closes on my words of love, in totality.

I know you’ve had doubts, and thought “I’m losing her,”
and that is ever so far from what I’m trying to do;
I love my poetry and prose, but not as much as I love you.
So darling, in poetry I say, of my love you can be sure.

So quit your thinking all of these foolish thoughts, dear
and bring your warm arms and smiling eyes over to me,
instead of having me utter the words, gaze into my soul and see
that I will survive, forever and tomorrow, as I abide right here.

P.S. A wonderful friend reminded me that I wrote this, and to her I respond to your question: "not really, but he tries a little harder to put up with my 'nonsense' ".

Karilea, I feel like a Peeping Thomasina on this intimate, wonderful, beautiful outpouring of exactly who you are and how you feel and think and how you want to make everything work.  I think that counsellors of all kinds, but especially marriage counsellors, as well as teachers,  - no cut all of that, the list is going to be too long – I think everybody should have a copy to see how to understand other people and to see how to express one’s own feelings to promote communication of the only kind – sincere, compassionate, positive communication.  I am dead serious about that.  I really hope you gave this to him to read.

I am in awe.

I finally found a quote that makes all of this fit...

“Better to write for yourself and have no public than to write for the public and have no self.” ~ Cyril Connolly

Yea!

Thanks, my friends, for your understanding. As you saw, Diana...this was written over a decade ago...

but at times, still rings true within my little world.
