Learn to watch something else that yourself, have a look on lonely trees which offer their leaves and teach different lessons about life and independant light, have a quiet look on the curious houses of streets which glimmer differently in the morning mind, learn to watch something else that yourself, the sky has no mystery for birds, but can you fly ? learn to not summerize anymore look for details even in your tired shoes, a tree is not all trees a seagull is not all seagulls, a word is not all words, learn to watch something else, forget yourself. |

Yann, I absolutely LOVE this - every line, every image, every concept, every nuance of sensitivity - the poem and all its elements - is gentle, true, beautiful and real. There are so many of your poems which vie for being my favourite of yours, but this one (at least for now) is my favourite. Part of it reminds me of a poem I wrote with a fairly similar concept, a long time ago, sitting in Flicka's feedroom preparing, as I did every day, his feed for the 3 meals of the next day. Whilst your poem contains the concept that every single animal and plant is absolutely unique and not a carbon copy of any other of the same species (something which has always been very fiercely important to me), my poem was about the fact that people say things like "it was JUST a dove" and I was saying that no bird is JUST that species of bird and that all species, no matter how many there are of that species, each one is important and precious. I am rushing to finish replying to this before I lose my Internet connection again, and will be saving your poem in my Yann folder. Owl |

Some days the only peace I know is the brief moments when I lose the crying baby of myself in my own head by focusing my attention outside of myself. But I confess that my body is screaming for attention. Thanks for this today. I think I should go for a brisk walk in some cold sunshine. Much enjoyed. |

so true and well stated! I am especially fond of the ending: "a tree is not all trees a seagull is not all seagulls, a word is not all words, learn to watch something else, forget yourself." |
