What words might I give To younger than I All I did was live All I did was try Did I accumulate wisdom Or just a few big words learned Will I be judge on what I’ve done Or the few dollars earned What words? Too few that matter or care For there’s no one to share Except Maybe you? |

Such is the dilemma of growing old enough that the past is more prevalent in your thoughts than the future. For the most part youth don't take kindly to much of anything we oldsters try to impart. Liked this poem. ~ Some people are like a Slinky -- not really good for anything -- but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs. ~ |

Welcome. I find that maybe we do not feel our children listen, and other young folks sometimes do.I think that way often.Having worked with youger folk I did indeed see a respect and sometimes even questions asked. I felt my children whom I have spoken to did not always seem to hear. But once in a while they repeat something said to them years ago by either myself or their dad and my insides feel a glow. You will also find this so. You have found a place where we all read and ponder. latearrival |

Graying1 (from one who has already grayed!) I agree with latearrival. I find that I say or think, "My mother taught such and such" and it is so ingrained in me that it is part of me - and my mother and I were not close at all, to put it gently. I find that my son and other young ones and much younger ones also surprise me with the most unexpected things that they tell me I taught them. My advice, is say all you want to whomever you want, give your heart and soul, and if one young person takes heart and learns, that is wonderful. My guess is that far more will, perhaps not now, but in time they will look back and remember with gratitude. And, by the way, the "you" you asked about - there are a lotttttttttttt of those "you"s here at Pip. Smiles. Welcome, from a South African owl in a sunny land far away. Owl |

"All I did was live All I did was try" Graying one.You will one day see and understand that what we learn is mostly by watching how others live their lives. I learned more from my Dad by the way he lived his life and a little by what he said. Best to you, latearrival |
