As the raindrops gently spatter There upon your window pane- You escape the inane chatter, Which is almost like a pain... You remove your heels or slippers Be you woman, or a man- And you stretch out on the sofa To relax, now that you can. Then a voice begins to whisper- You know not from whence it comes On the portals of your concious Like a fist it gently drums. And demands you that you open Up your soul and let it in... Where it bares your darkest secrets And it tells you they are SIN! So you hasten to the cupboard- To pour yourself a drink- Perhaps to light a cigarette, You say they help you think... Yet that voice will not be silent- Oh, what's a man to do? As that dreaded, haunting whisper Seems to chill you through and through. It reveals to you deceptions- That you have long forgot- That all the things you think you are- In reality you're not! It reveals that you've forgotten- What you were, from whence you've come... In the face of revelation- You will find it strikes you dumb... In distress and consternation- You'll beseech it, "Tell me! Who?" And that mocking voice will chuckle, "Don't you know me? I am you". |

We become expert at beating ourselves up as we age because, there is oh so much to remember and much to regret. So we have to take a breather, and be kinder to ourselves and bring up nicer things before we go to bed. Love your postings .latearrival |

Extremely insightful, John. Now while I don't go for the cigs, I do indulge in the other vice...but that's simply because I hear the voices double and trice! Excellent work, Sir! |

Well done, John! Smiles. I love the poem and agree with it to a large degree . . . but . . . sometimes that “you” doesn’t recognise the good things that the real you really are. More smiles. Owl |
