dear torpor,
dear taper,

your longing dwindles in the rain,
mine echoes its hollow chord,
is too fragile,

my wherewithall is yellow pine,
the dark needs tending
and you won't tell me where you've gone,

I 've a sorrow garden,
flowers that grow wilder each night,

I am the river's cold heart,
receding, I am nothing, really~

dear torpor,
we lived on daisies
and afternoon light in the doldrums,

dear taper,
you loved better than I,

your words abate now,
abandon me on riddled wings,

dearest regret, dearer than I,
the fruit of errancy tastes bitter, doesn't it?

anonymity is not a name, but a lull,
a threshold of nothing but silence,
a sanctuary diminishing. gone blank.

the husk of my life narrows now into a blade~

tomorrow I will pour last night's storm
over my skin, catch it all in every pore,
the rain is grief-thick,

for without you
I am vulgar and uncouth.

Well, I can quite understand the torpor/taper concept, they are around to stand in for life when we humans decide to commit pseudo hari kari.

Like Lori, the graphic is asskicking.

Belle, your intricate, exquisite, multi-layered exposé's are for me a classical ballet, an impressionistic painting, a Greek temple, a treasure-chest, indicative of a mind so interesting that I don't know how you fit it all inside your head.

I always read your poetry in time-frozen slow motion (the way I eat mushrooms, my most favourite food in the world), so as not to miss a single nuance of its beauty.

My favourite, favourite line is:

"I have a sorrow garden"

Steeped in a very deep emotional
struggle so brilliantly
portrayed in this write.
More than a poet lives in you, girl.
You make even renowned artists work
seem as a second hand store.

Such refined poetic language! You possess the art of expressing your somber emotions by holding them to the light .... as in sorrow/garden.

An important work!

I so enjoy give and take poetry...
and you gave, and believed
every moment of this...

at least, that is how it is perceived
from my green eyes...

well done, m'friend.

Smiles, Belle.  You know there are people who don't eat mushrooms!  And some who don't have poetry in their souls!  How do they manage to live, I wonder!  How rich is our life (if not our pockets) who do both!

Amazing write.  Loved the "Dear Torpor" opening.
quote:
anonymity is not a name, but a lull,
a threshold of nothing but silence,

great lines... kind of thrummed to the tune of emptiness being insatiable, yet how can we satiate something that is intangible in it's very essence?  Much enjoyed.

I love how your words parade in front of me with such style and grace.  Plus, I don't think anyone titles a poem like you do.  I have title envy for sure.  Baby Girl.  your poems read like water - they flow and just slide over my tongue.  Love them.  Also, I really appreciated that you put the graphic after the poem. I loved the picture and loved that it did not push in front of your poem.

Great job!

Mind at sloth;
Drips slow, the candles wax
Rain dampens her core,
And puts the fire out.

But flowers widen, sucking in the wet
Petals floating, on swollen rivers of  pain..

And yet

Her thoughts are glowing
On the glint-heat edge of knife,
But still she feels the chill of damp.

As

Something holds the maid for ransom
Something long-gone, still has weight.

And parades outside her window-gate;

Where in her vulgar garden

* Priests in black gowns (are) were walking their rounds,
And binding with briars (her) my  joys and desires.

*William Blake--(1757-1827)--from "The Garden of Love"
