Wistful Moods

Wistful moods are discerning on wintry days, for me.
Briskly collecting deep quiet thoughts of you.
Collecting thoughts of where you might be today,
or, thoughts that you too, might remember me…

I truly miss those wintry days with you.
Though now, they are cold shadows of ghost.
Ghost whispering wintry windy songs.
Leaving their frosty – breath on my windowpane,
and coercing the drifting snow against my doorpost.
Windy ghost, conjuring-up memories,
memories long past,
a time now, forever gone…

Just now, I envisioned us ice-skating on that frozen pond.
That abandoned pond, just outside town.
I often wonder if you remember:
We first ice-skated there, you and I.
I spent several days on my own, learning to ice-skate there,
cold days, all alone.
I learned that way, so you would never see me fall –

Not fail in anything, in whatever I would do.

And I knew how you would respond when I truly surprised you…
A sweet hug, a kiss on my cheek, that cute laugh of yours, and
an almost whispered: “JL”,
as only you could say…
I did look forward to that, in my own mixed-up way,
I do very much miss that too…

Oh, I knew how to contrive ways to pull your attention to me,
my mind so filled with obnoxious, immature jealousies.
I was so in love with you, but I just didn’t know how,
how to be in love with you:
My heart echoed: ‘look at me – look at me.’
Such heartfelt desire to be yours, with no apologies.
Wanting to put you in my back pocket, keeping you with me always,
having all of you just for me…

But you could not have known my true intentions.
The way I was then, so obscure, with my splintered emotions.
I thought you might perceive me as pathetic or weak spirited.
So my soft words were tied into knots, and cultivated with the weeds.
Yet, inscribed on furrowed parchment within my heart,
hidden there, silently established…
I could spend my entire day
with these wistful moods examining them with care…
Wistful moods for wintry days, warming thoughts,
comforting moods, abating this wintry air.
Sitting here staring out my window
watching these apparitions of days past,
ghost, playing in the snow…
I pray that someday, to you they may take wing:
Delivering my dreams,
wrapped in my heart’s parchment and pen,
so that you too,
might know,
I often think of you
In the summer, spring, and the fall,
But most of all in wintry, wistful moods…

Ah, JL such wistful memories and realities' dream you have centered this semi-tragic poem around. I say semi, because though the lines are speaking of a lost love I sense some hope of a revival.

I am well aware of where you speak when you write about "mind so filled with obnoxious, immature jealousies." It is the bane of people who are not quite sure of their own place in the world. A very common affliction which attacks normally sane people and cause them to go quite insane at any given moment.

I felt this one, buddy.

A good read for me this morning, on this somewhat wintry day..I got lost in you own history here, J.L....the same as you did when you wrote the poem.

This shows the value of poetry to the human spirit...This poem speaks the words of a heart song, Thank you for letting me sing along.

I read this last night, and started to reply but wanted to come back to it.  I like your remembering poems; the wistfulness and longing in them.  I can feel the emotions very clearly, and that is a very good thing for someone who routinely forgets that she has them.

Maybe you can bless the blue pages with some
of your wistful emotion you have overlooked.

I can't imagine anyone forgetting. *S* For however much we change, however much we mature and learn behaviors, a tenderness such as you show here didn't develop overnight... and once a woman experiences such tenderness, she never forgets... even when that tenderness was but a flash from a macho pimply teenager to his blushing girl. *S* This is absolutely beautiful!!

I am so glad this came up again, otherwise I would have missed this most enchanting write. I adore ice-skating scenarios and your memory allowed mine to surface ...

And when love stirrings are part of the ice-bliss I think it's simply perfect, even if it didn't "develop" into something lasting.

Much enjoyed!

JL...

this is quite touching, it feels like
something I might want to write, but you
have already done so, and it is a moving
panoply of imagery...so simple, so touching,
that every and anyone could know, remember, and in solitude, hold.

I curtsey.

But most of all in wintry, wistful moods…
...
sigh
this does leave one in a wistful mood, as we all have those 'wintery' places that we visit...
great write
