For My Love, On Christmas Eve* Night folds me like a doll into a dress, somewhere, love forms a hole so endless, it echoes, the heart is a bright red birdhouse, a dovecote, cloven a broken key, Christmas eve, and I still know all the words for grace, for kisses beneath the mistletoe, I drown in yards and yards of golden tulle, fall in and out of focus, my tongue a trinket, a chocolate bauble, a nuance of the flesh, tonight, I’ve hooves, snow white and trembling to let go the balloon hidden beneath my hoopskirt, mostly, I just spin languorously, play the spoons while the bones are picked clean, there’s a rope in my throat, in case of fire, a martyr, a failing clock, and I’ve been hiding in the cloak room for days among dark coats, the floorboards creak, another fire hazard, I’m sure, the night seals me in softening, seamless, this body inside the body, untenable, the surge then the swarm, it keeps for days, in jars, wasps in the joists of the floorboards, drones in the blankets, every hollow loosening to gold, my body half, the whole then half again, the hands are vague, now along the increment of miles, I’ll name my daughters after red constellations, obscure, reservoir, bitterweed, Christmas, really, is all in the wrist, dumb luck, in a dark room, fidgeting, it’s red rapture of barrettes, ribbons and clothespins, all that fastening, two and two together, now, it’s all wash tubs and stolen pocket watches, the poison boutonniere, I’d send pigeons if I had any. ~In Chains ~Isabella La Rose, * an epistolary poem [This message has been edited by bel1e (01-10-2012 12:01 PM).] |

Haven't heard the phrase "cloak room" in many a year. I, like DS, enjoy your examination of yourself as you open the closet and cellar doors to your Id. You write well, very well. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Thanks so much, Jerry~~*~I'm drawn to just about anything vintage...including language...is there such a thing? vintage language? ha ha...you will find nuances like that in a lot of what I write...this poem is taken from a larger collection of epistolary poems I began to write a while back and it documents a love story between two star-crossed lovers...the setting post Cival War era...so you will see the references to vintage fashion as well Thanks so much for taking a peek inside!

Is this the inner part of a novel you are writing? I enjoyed the read. JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

Hi JL~ It's not a novel at all...I began to write a series of epistolary poems as a writing project...and this is part of it...the poems appear in a vintage scrapbook that documents the torrid love affair of a young lady in the post civil war era....so it's kind of a combined writing and art project.... I would post pics of the scrapbook...but for the erotic visual content...LOL...so alas...it must remain in the imagination, for now! Thanks for reading! XOXO

somewhere, love forms a hole so endless, it echoes, You bring forth fantastic imagery and reading you is like sitting in the front row of a theatre where you are the performer. Wondrous perceptions. Margherita |

You keep posting, and I'll keep reading....:-) I really like this > "The heart is a bright red birdhouse, a dovecote, cloven a broken key," And this... (very sensual) "in and out of focus, my tongue a trinket, a chocolate bauble," "I’d send pigeons if I had any." You don't have to, I get the messege.:-) "an epistolary poem" ok, I see now that this could be a letter. |

Ice-man...you are simply encouraging more lunacy! Thank you for that yes, the poem is a letter...the entire series are love letters immersed in metaphor...and fantasy They're a lot of fun to write...given the right...inspiration.... Thanks for putting up with me!

ribbons and clothespins, all that fastening, two and two together, now, it’s all wash tubs and stolen pocket watches, the poison boutonniere, I liked it all very much, but especially these dreams to dust lines... excellent!! |

As beautiful and fascinating as ever, Belle. Please, over time, post the whole series of epistles to/from/about this young lady of the post civil war era, preferably in order so that we can follow your magical project. Owl |

Owl~~~I have tons of these little poems in the scrapbook...and I will be sure to share more of them here on PIP...the only thing is that...since it is both a visual and poetic endeavor...they make more sense, I think when you read them in their original format...the handwriting-like fonts and the accompanying pictures in the scrapbook...but I will certainly post some of the stand-alone ones here like I did with this one. Thank you so much for the interest! XOXO |
