The moon sold its eye that night
A luminous light that rose through the Catskills and closed its eyes as the sun rose again

Against a light of trees that extended its branches like a rain only knows how to when it drops along the cities sidewalks

The night, once again
Prayers and long, stilled stares followed the hours into the wee moments of the night

Still with an ease of art across its face
As the night grows quieter
So do the distant stares
