Why Why Why

the passing of time seems a gift
yet a curse we all must sustain
life a gift, death a rebirth
living a struggle where we
please others in
hoping and expectation
why
-------------
loneliness is enduring a quieting
where beautiful songs
harmonize the heart
purifying joy and glee
yet complement to surety
for its purposelessness and silence
why
-------------
and time goes on and on
yet the question remains
why
-------------
change cannot happen
over time but must be in a twinkling
less than a spark
less than a breath
where an invisible line
separates
why
-------------
a shout
bouncing in atmosphere
no echo except the trumpet
why
-------------
the question lingers
why
-------------
to perfection we all strive
some obtain
others obliterate their own living
-------------
the question persists
why
-------------
Latin: quī   how? In what way? / somehow / wherewith
-------------
still
not explained
why

so as time has passed
I reminisce and sigh
my children’s younger years
and think how
they had asked me to tears
why…why…why

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.
Maranatha!

JL, I have just given up on trying to answer the why's of life and beyond. Why? Haha Because it is ALL guesswork. Nice work here though.

Your poem brought me to tears, I can so identify with the feelings you expressed, so very well I might add.

Especially love this verse~

~~loneliness is enduring a quieting
where beautiful songs
harmonize the heart
purifying joy and glee
yet complement to surety
for its purposelessness and silence
why

why, why, why...

quote:
loneliness is enduring a quieting
where beautiful songs
harmonize the heart

we never know when we miss them so
until we hear a child ask his
or her
parent...

why?

ok, so you're pulling on heart strings,
but I'll never admit to it!

Sunshine, you are so right, I guess I am just a bit nostalgic this time of year.  So many memories.

I started to copy and paste what stood out to me the most, but I ended up with the whole poem... (smiling)  Sometimes I think loneliness is the universal umbilical cord that ties us all together at one point or another, but what your poem spoke to me was that there's so much more than just that.  And also, with a little grin at the ending...the children's never ending whys.  I always enjoy what you write (you just need to write more!)

LOL...
Well Ms. VanDoe that is a first for me, being a reminder to someone of their mom.  I did a lot better as a dad, but there were times the "mom" was missing.  (That was another 'why').
I do appreciate your very warm and sincere reply.  And, I am happy I could make a slight reflection that you could enjoy.  Really...
Thanks.

You have truly captured the essence of life's greatest question, JL.  Masterfully done... and of course, I have no answer for you.

I went from questioning my parents to nagging God with my litany of "why?"s... and it's as hard as ever to live with no answers... or none that I like, anyway. *S*

I love every line of this... but especially the reflections on loneliness... Beautiful work!!

Just as you say about your children's repetitions of asking why .... we too, even as His adult children, we go on asking why ... and He smiles and sighs "I try and I try to make them see, but they are distracted by the world's noise and they don't hear my voice". And yet in some mystical moments some among us seem to get close to perceive more and we are in awe, but than again a veil covers our eyes ...

I really think we can all relate to your very beautifully expressed ponderings, dear JL.

Enjoyed the read greatly.
