He said they'd be fine come the top of the morning all would renew itself from the twilight of atrophy deep in the trenches born with their boots on stiff in their awkwardness they reach out in prayer pose I could hear cries through the hollows of branches he said they were free now from the load on their shoulders and the sun would lay down again in rivers of gold between their frail skeletons feet caked in mud in the cross of the forest the evening is swallowed in a pondful of silence the echoes of loneliness seek the respite of rapture and I wait for the golden one to break through the mountains and deliver the promise to those who come reaching. This is just awesome, dear EmmaRose. Your words touch the heart and the emotion lingers, heavy with sadness and yet pregnant with hope. Love, Margherita |

Ah, to finally be free from that load on their shoulders. Rumor has it that they'd be fine by morning-time, and I see them all reaching and hoping for the words of that last verse to play out. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

There is such a quiet strength in your poetry; and I can't help but remain captivated throughout. |

EmmaRose, whether I have understood this or not, I surely can see how superbly written and very beautiful, deep and sensitive it is. I understand it to be the ending of the war in Iraq and American soldiers returning home being an analogy/parable for the Christmas story and the promise of Christ to return. Owl |

Emma.... how touching, and very full with imagery... you set me back a pace, and then a century, and then more. In other words, this poem traveled the universe. Well done! |

Power filled poetry here..I felt like I was one of them, sitting quietly, waiting for the sun to come up, and brighten the world. |
