when I was a small boy
they told me to be sure and fall in love
and boy, I certainly did try
I fell in love, so many, many times
and I'm not that small boy anymore
I searched for love's heavenly bliss
cause that's what I was told I should do
Delores first captured my heart
high school junior-senior banquet and dance
later, on the way home
off a side road for some groping and kissing
to me that was love's heavenly bliss
didn't last, didn't last
but then there was Dorothy
older by some years than moi
in the cold, cold, Wyoming winters
I, wearing Air Force blues
melding with her bluest of eyes
backseat of her car
more involved groping and lip locking
than with Delores
and I thought for sure
this was love's heavenly bliss
wasn't to be, wasn't to be
I found Marionette at the roller rink
back home in Arkansas
chased off the guy she was skating with
gave her some good moves
she gave me more of her
soon we were walking down the aisle
wedding paradise
much, much too young for this to ever be
love's heavenly bliss
Nanette, sloe-eyed beauty
New York City born and bred
caught my eye because she stood out
as the normal one in 1960's LA madness
Las Vegas married
Los Angeles separated for good
the years between the two cities
much pain and sorrow
so, no this was not love's heavenly bliss
it came close, it came close
so many woman came and went
literally and figuratively
after her
the love word passed around
like dinner rolls at a banquet
each time I just knew
this was love's heavenly bliss
not to be so, not to be so
found out it was me, not them
(well, it was some of "them")
that was the problem
sunk low in self esteem
very low
then there was Dottie
two lost souls reaching out for help
love and someone to care
we understood our situation
talked about it
love's heavenly bliss was not on the table
still . . .
our need was so great
we stayed married thirty some odd years
ah
now we come to . . .
her
the one true love of my life
she is my lover
my confessor and everything in between
this time, and it is about time
she is love's heavenly bliss

I am happy for you, Jerry, that the Heavenly Bliss has arrived. I enjoyed reading your very lovely poetic considerations about every "heavenly bliss" candidate in your life.

In retrospection, quite naturally, it is always the one in the Now who has all the right numbers to convince us that the top has been reached.

It's just a great feeling and a precious gift too, isn't it?!

Yes, it is a great feeling a precious gift, Margherita. I am a fortunate person to have been blessed at this time in my life. Thank you for your own precious words.
