. A shell Comes in And a Drafted soldier Who doesn’t Want to be there Gets hit in the arm It’s a Serious wound And leaves A visible scar For the rest Of his years It’s a given Badge of courage Though in fact He was no braver Than a passing driver Who gets swiped In an accident On his way to a bar It serves now To legitimize Who he is Which is what He was before A jerk Who thinks And acts As if stupidity Were a virtue A terror before A terror after And I suspect In consequence The same thing Is pretty much True of women . |

I have to disagree a wee bit, my friend... for those who allowed that they might serve even if by draft, for there were those who chose to run into harm's way it's not quite the same as a beer run, or a chance visit to a tavern of choice. Albeit, the words carry weight, and for that, I appreciate your poetry. |
