Listening to every heart

A Christmas Letter to Lost Love

Synchronized with the season
Seems to be the only reason
That cool brisk wind of fall
Has given way to a colder call

Throughout the night ringing chimes
Sang to and fro by winter’s touch
Bringing with them much rhyme
Of winter solstice dreams, and such

So I fantasized of an icy winter’s land
Steaming cocoa, warm mittened hand
Snowflakes kissing freckled cheek
Children waiting for Santa’s peek

Concurrent too, was me missing you
Wondering how you are, where you be
Seems the wind brought memory
Of the long-ago way things used to be

So my heart pined to hear the wind sing
Across the crystal icy winter scene
As it brought back sweet memories
Of the long-ago way things used to be

For Old Spice was your favorite scent
But cool was the way you’d become
When warmth had left your heart at home
To other horizons you’d then run

You left the deep toned chimes behind
I could not bear to take them down
For they remind me of when you were mine
Even though you’ve long since left town

So as the breath of cold from north
Comes to ring these sweet old chimes
Do not pine away for me my dear
For one day I shall find better times

Love this!!!
Classic!  I could hear all the old Christmas songs; I could smell the coco warming on the stove; and visualize the fireplace glowing; frost on the windows and snow quietly and softly falling.  Thanks for the memories!

Merry Christmas!!

"For one day I shall find better times."

Yes you shall, Sunshine. If I can anyone can, and I have.

This is a bitter-sweet remembrance with got good times overshadowed by his coldness and departure. I;m sorry that happened to you, but I feel you have the right attitude about it. There IS someone else and he is right around the corner. I believe that.

Wonderful, my friend, loved these lines:

"So I fantasized of an icy winter’s land
Steaming cocoa, warm mittened hand
Snowflakes kissing freckled cheek
Children waiting for Santa’s peek"

Could hear all the 'old' songs from behind The Green Door and taste the cocoa with a lump of butter floating on top...

Great write.

Love is lost, and new love gained:
Though new might cringe to say.

That yet a tiny place within
A heart
For old love, still remains.

I say this in response to the feelings I got while reading your poem, dear Sunshine.

One feeling that pressed, was of the enormity of the heart as a vessel, a vessel that contains many spaces, and always there are rooms vacant.

Some are filled with past love situations...
poems like this open the window to those rooms, and a reader , reading, cannot help but open the chambers of their own hearts
and be touched by the memories they never will escape..

Beautiful in its longing, K.  Indeed, better times are out there though.  Nicely done... but you knew that.

a beautifully sad carol, Karilea!

Oh... I love the chimes you've spoken about; and I love this.  I always enjoy your poems   This is definitely no exception.

The beauty and sadness in this had the tears streaming down my face.  I cry a lot in Pip, yet I can't stay away for long.  Perhaps the tears are the well-kept secret to my inexplicable health.  This poem is a sparkling gem.

I felt the love and longing in your words... and they echo in my heart. I've never been with a love at Christmas... but I've loved and held them in my heart, felt their presence across the miles and anticipated again... now only missing is left. *sigh* This bittersweet beauty touched me deeply.
