At some point You don’t need A bottle A pack of cigarettes A bus or a rock Falling out of the sky Who knew Did you hear Who could imagine I guess in the end It was just his time There’s eventually No need for Nazis Commies or Viet Cong All the doughty men Gather for a final frightening Each to the front With no return The winter snow Comes sifting down On a heap of dirt The hole that wants Its filling in Another generation Of mourners Waiting in line Regardless Of how or why . |
