Sad, Lunar Eyes
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Moondrops are raining from sad, lunar eyes,
while unsettled seas drink the tears that she cries.
The night swallows up all her strength and her pride,
as she pines for the love that had ebbed with the tide.

~*~

Encircling arms were once comforting and warm.
A protective safe haven ~ her port in a storm.
Now churning black waters and turbulent skies
were threatening her with an untimely demise.

A gale came squealing from the highlands up north.
Menacing waves tossed the lass back and forth.
She was dragged like a rag doll along rocky shoal,
as she clung on to life and to last vestige of soul.

Broken and lifeless, she was washed up on shore,
but her sad, lunar eyes would not cry any more.
Her spirit now wails and screams with the wind,
as she longs for her lover who had mortally sinned.

~*~

Moondrops are raining from sad, lunar eyes,
while unsettled seas drink the tears that she cries.
The night swallows up all her strength and her pride,
as she pines for the love that had ebbed with the tide.

Love is the unifying force which integrates
one’s soul with that of another.

Whoa!!! Wow. I read this in rapt earnest, and each line deepened the drama. Could almost feel the squealing gale, maybe because I used to work in the Gulf of Mexico and understand the scream of the gale. Each line took your story to its exciting and ultimate climax, and one that made me sit back in my chair and take a deep breath. "her lover who had mortally sinned." Great piece of poetical writing, Linda.

"she pines for the love, that had ebbed with the tide."

Great write.  Great last line for the story.

Oh, my dear Angelo Terrestre, this was so intense that I felt like being myself the lass you so vividly render here. I must catch my breath again!

The sadness you convey is mitigated though through her longing for her lover ... a love that seems to forgive everything and to live on ... despite such a dramatic evolvement.

Superb writing. Bravissima! (yes!)

Love and hugs.

Ida Belle, the story near brought me to tears! ~ and it's all a figment of my imagination! I can get so caught up in my own writing. A fertile imagination can get my emotions in trouble!

My dear mush pot with the tender heart. We're cut from the same cloth. Our sensitivity can help others but it sure as heck can play havoc with our emotions!

Love you, girlfriend!

Margherita qua bonita, you have the uncanny ability to put the nail on the head when it comes to reading my poems. Sometimes I understand my own poems better after I've read one of your comprehensive comments! lol
I love you and your abilities.

Linda,

You write poetry that I love.  You tell a story like few here - and you weave it beautifully with images and emotion.  So sad and haunting - and so beautiful.  Thank you for writing and sharing.

Love,
Alison

Oh, this has a feel of foul play about it, and Gothic sadness. My heart is haunted in the reading, too.  What fabulously poetic tales you spin of tragic lovers on a tempestuous shoreline, Linda! *unworthy*
