![]() Free Music this is what is left a gaping hole a twisted, bent board and memories of my darling nevermore it started out as idle chat telling tall stories round the campfire each one trying to claim the best tale the one which would set our teeth to chattering most of 'em we'd heard the monster on top of the car werewolf's and hell's dungeons we laughed rather than shrieked the tales were so often related but someone told a tale designed to catch our fancy about the old Moss place and the hidden treasure the Old Moss place deserted and miles from town was spoken about with whispery voices strange were the Moss' didn't socialize with townsfolk or us with them happened three years ago gunplay knifes flashing pistol shots and the boom of a 12-gauge everybody dead that's when folks began to talk about the treasure my darling nevermore spoke up said she knew where the treasure was we all laughed so did she good naturedly after everybody left she said she wasn't kidding said she knew where the treasure was said her crazy uncle Bob told her let's go I said laughingly she nodded and struck off into the night air I followed didn't know what else to do besides she was my darling nevermore moon was high and pale giving us light to dig by she giggled said we don't have to dig we gonna be rich come on she said and struck out for the house there it is she said pointing to the porch where a board was loose she lay on her stomach pulled the board up and stuck her arm underneath the porch through that hole I feel it, she said just before she screamed jumped up an ugly water moccasin attached to her jugular I jerked the snake by its tail yanked it off her neck when it came loose took most of my darling nevermore's throat with it she died without a sound I picked her up walked into Panther Woods buried her deep never left the woods people only get fleeting glimpses of me don't know who I am they call me the ghost of Panther Woods as I watch over my darling nevermore ~ Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~ [This message has been edited by JerryPat (01-23-2011 10:18 PM).] |

I so appreciate you words, Faith. I fear many won't care for the poem because of it's violent passages, but life is not all kissy-huggy. Things happen. We respond, sometimes not all that rationally. Thanks again. ~ Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~ |

Jerry, your diversity is amazing! Ya kinda got a Poe /Hitchcock thing going on here. It was "awfully" good. Lori |

...and, we are all drawn to the dark side...my Uncle Lonnie would be so proud of you with this one (he was the master storyteller of all things dark and beautiful)...taking great care to scare the Levis off his nephews...I read this in daylight with great anticipation ![]() |
